How have you been since we last spoke?
All is very well! Family is growing, thriving, fiddling! We all continue to play and travel, mixed in with domestic life here in the farm. I’m grateful for little things; being able to enjoy the land, have wonderful opportunities here in Ontario, good food, good home and lots of love around me.
You have a lot going on musically, what inspired this work?
Our most recent CD was inspired from having the freedom of time and no pressures. It was done during the pandemic. We called it CANVAS to represent the blank space with which we got to create. There were no boundaries or preconceived notions, just abandonment of all previous patterns and an openness to tap into anywhere we were led musically.
How has music changed since the pandemic?
Well certainly it took a while to get things going again. It didn’t just all come back with the snap of a finger. So certainly the frequency of performances changed for everyone. Alternate platforms such as zoom became incredibly popular as a result.
Have you had any challenges with music since the post-pandemic world?
Yes we had challenges. Because of the very slow opening up again, many performers experienced such a delay getting back into the swing that I found it a very heavy time. With so much uncertainty, it was disturbing. I also think we all experienced some form of division. That was perhaps the most crippling of all, allowing our differences to separate us.
How do you feel the fiddle has been accepted in modern music? Is it still a more niche type of music, or does it feel more mainstream now?
Certainly fiddling has had its ebb and flow of popularity through the ages, but generally it’s a niche market. That said, it is vibrant and evolves healthily. I am happy in my little fiddle world!
Where can fans see you perform? Do you have an album available?
You can see us perform in the US throughout the Christmas season!
